TOP 5 SECRET UK BEACHES
Forget about foreign sands: we have wonderful beaches right here in the UK! Okay, we don't have the temperature of the Canaries or the same number of sunny days as LA, but we do have some spectacular beaches here in the United Kingdom. Swap the Mediterranean for Cornwall, or the Peloponnese for Pembrokeshire, and you'll be astonished at what you'll discover: there are several things to do, numerous places to see, and assured family fun.
Gammons Head beach, Devon, England
Gammons Head beach is a small, sandy cove, sheltered by high cliffs, that disappears at high tide. It’s accessible on foot only, via the South West Coast Path and a climb down but well worth it if you’re looking for seclusion.
Rumbling Kern, Northumberland, England
Another award-winning gem, Rumbling Kern. This secret beach is hidden behind cliffs that face inland from the sea, in a rocky cove south of Cullernose Point near Howick Hall – home of Earl Grey and the tea that shares his name. A closely guarded secret amongst Northumberland coast connoisseurs, making it ideal for a peaceful gateway.
Sinclair-Bay-Beach, Highlands, Scotland
Sinclair’s Bay, known locally as Reiss Beach is a stunning white sanded paradise with 16th century castles at both ends.
Sinclair’s Bay is a single large, white beach, split in half by a stream. With high cliffs behind and sand dunes, the south side of the beach is sheltered from the wind. The beach is peaceful and an attractive spot for surfing enthusiasts with a high quality beach break. The area is a popular place to spot a variety of seabirds and marine life including seals and occasionally orcas.
Strathy Bay, Highlands, Scotland
The award-winning Strathy Bay in the Scottish Highlands even more unique. The beach has the River Strathy on one side and the north coast's spectacular cliffs on the other side, making it unsurprising when it was nominated as one of Scotland's best beaches in 2019.
Traeth Llyfn, Pembrokeshire, Wales
Traeth Llyfn is a pretty sandy and rocky beach between Porthgain and Abereiddi.
The beach, backed by towering cliffs, is reached by very steep metal stairs but provides plenty of room for ball games; flying a kite; there are rock pools to explore as well. As this beach is so remote you’ll probably find you’re the only one on it.
