GREECE IS THE WORD

Soho Roc Hotel, Mykonos

Soho Roc House has opened its doors on the island of Mykonos. The first Soho House in Greece, its 45 bedrooms, pool, restaurant and lounge area sit atop the Cycladic coastline and look out across the Aegean Sea. Nestled in a spot between Paradise and Paraga beaches, the picturesque location manages to be both private enough to hide away in and perfectly positioned for wherever the party takes you; in minutes you can be in one of Mykonos Town’s many beachside bars or Scorpios, which joined the Soho House family in 2019.

The House

Formerly San Giorgio, the hotel has been transformed by the Soho House design team to incorporate new club spaces and introduce the home-from-home touches you find in our bedrooms around the world, all while keeping the surrounding inspiration at its core.

Taking cues from Scorpios and the laid-back island life in Mykonos, Soho Roc House’s polished plaster floors, neutral finishes and natural materials extend to the furnishings, with linen fabrics, jute rugs, bespoke ceramic lamps and woven wall tapestries. Meanwhile, the indoor foliage and bright, open spaces connect the inviting outdoors to the interiors.

From the reception area, the space flows through to an outdoor courtyard, where an original stone chapel stands, and lounge seating and dining tables sit amid olive trees. There’s an outdoor gym and a monthly programme allowing you to focus your mind and body with yoga, qigong and wellbeing workshops. Near the Pool Bar – the main gathering place of the House – water, foliage and natural stone paving create an outdoor landscape where you can relax on daybeds and loungers between dips. The Sea Lounge has Moroccan-style floor cushions and low seating, with views out over the Aegean Sea. If you’re hungry, organic home-style Mediterranean dishes can be found in Soho Roc House’s rustic open-plan restaurant.

The bedrooms, which range from Tiny to Extra Large, are designed with muted palettes to create a feeling of serenity, while locally made textiles and handpicked furniture add texture and invite you to stay in bed long after sunrise. Some bedrooms have sea views, while others have private gardens and terraces. Of course, no Soho House bedroom is complete without a rainforest shower and Cowshed’s range of products.

Scorpios

A short walk away is Scorpios, set in a cove on a southern tip of Mykonos. Inspired by an ancient Greek agora, or meeting place, Scorpios is where creatives, musicians and storytellers gather, with a restaurant, terraces and daybeds dotted across the sand. Its music programming aims to challenge the status quo of the mainstream, while wellness events feature workshops, talks, and movement and meditation classes. Soho Roc House members and bedroom guests can use the priority members’ entrance at Scorpios.

MYKONOS

With sandy beaches, whitewashed villages and a vibrant, cosmopolitan party scene, Mykonos adds a touch of glamour to the Greek Islands.

Greece’s Designer Island

With boutique hotels, luxury villas and label-laden shops, Mykonos is Greece’s answer to St-Tropez. Its list of A-list visitors starts with Jackie Onassis in the Sixties and moves on to P-Diddy in the Noughties. But the LA faithful happily share their space with the island-hopping backpacking crowd.

The Full Range of Beaches

Resources certainly aren’t short on Mykonos. For starters, the island is belted with beaches. While the jet-set can’t get enough of the watersports and cocktail bars at Paradise and Super Paradise, those after something a bit quieter head to the coves at Elia and Ornos. There are plenty of sun beds on both beaches, plus a collection of tavernas at each. Plati Yialos, meanwhile, provides a happy medium. This lively stretch of sand is back by hotels and family-friendly bars and restaurants.

The After-dark Scene

Mykonos has its fair share of nightlife. When the sun goes down, Paradise and Super Paradise are the most popular spots. If it’s a relaxed meal you want, Mykonos Town is the place to go. The restaurants here serve everything from Greek fusion food to bespoke vegetarian meals. For a real treat, book yourself a table at the Nobu restaurant, Matsuhisa, to sample cutting-edge dishes, like tartar with caviar and black cod miso.
