a source of life
Northern Botswana's expansive Okavango Delta is a verdant wetland that is frequently referred to as "The Jewel of the Kalahari." More than 700 species of animals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and fish call this unanticipated oasis of life, one of the biggest marshlands in the world, home. The Okavango Delta is one of the world's driest deserts, and it is a seasonal marsh fed by precipitation from Angola's lush highlands. The Delta is a genuine natural wonder due to its special location in the vast Kalahari Desert.
The dry season is when the Okavango's sparkling waters are at their peak. The Angolan Highlands are where the majority of the water that annually floods the Okavango Delta originates; it travels over 1,700 km to get to the Okavango's distinctive geological area. The Earth's plates were displaced by an earthquake in Southern Africa 50,000 years ago, creating the tectonic depression in which the Delta is located. Formerly flowing into Botswana, the Angolan floodwater now makes its home on this extraordinary plain.
The extraordinary topography of the Okavango Delta comprises wetlands, wide-open grasslands, deep aquatic channels, and tall grasses. Depending on the season, you may discover that land trips are more beneficial than aquatic ones. You'll like the water-based excursions, which include glass-bottomed mokoros, motorboats, and double-decker boats when the water is high during the dry season. Due to low water levels, these trips are not possible during the rainy season. The land-based safaris may be taken on foot on an exhilarating walking safari or in the luxury of their specially constructed 4x4 safari cars.
