WHY STEP OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE
Each of us has a "comfort zone" that determines our everyday pattern more than it does a physical location. Comfort zones are psychological, emotional, and behavioural constructs. Being in one's comfort zone suggests stability, ease, and familiarity. It explains the orderly world in which we live, keeps us mostly at ease and composed, and greatly aids in keeping us mentally stable and free from concern and anxiety. For most of our lifetimes, developing a comfort zone is a good adaptation. But it's also important to move outside of our comfort zone when it's time to change, advance, or alter.
A little worry and nervousness every now and then are also beneficial. You might be losing out on a lot, such as novel experiences, difficulties, and dangers, if all you ever do is remain snugly wrapped in your own little cocoon. In addition, if you can't leave your comfort zone, you might have a hard time changing, growing, and eventually transforming—in other words, doing everything that makes you who you are and gives your life purpose.
Simply put, we are most afraid of failing or suffering harm when we challenge ourselves. But the majority of us are capable of rising to the occasion, overcoming challenges, and successfully completing a novel and difficult task.
Significant advantages of going outside your comfort zone:
Your "real life" is waiting for you out there. Beyond the confines of your own unique ideas, feelings, and beliefs is where your true existence actually lives. The total of ALL of your experiences—not just the ones you find comfortable—makes up your actual existence.
Self-challenge encourages you to access and make use of your own hidden information and resources. Until you leave your comfortable surroundings, you won't know what you're composed of.
No matter how they turn out, taking chances is a learning process. Even if you mess up or don't get it right the first time, those errors or failures turn into lessons that you can draw on later. In reality, if you learn something from the experience, there is no such thing as "failing." For your information, "FAIL" now stands for "First Attempt in Learning."
It would be too costly to accept mediocrity in order to stay within your comfort zone. You build up obstacles and risk-taking encounters over time. You are always learning and developing your set of life skills and self-knowledge when you attempt something new and give yourself permission to be receptive to whatever experience comes up. By doing this, you also enlarge your safety zone.
In the end, stepping outside of your comfort zone will help you cope with change—and implement change—much better. Change is at the heart of all life changes. Every time you switch levels, you advance. These living changes inevitably change you.
Going into the unknown might seem daunting. Instead of focusing on the "big picture," however, consider how minor adjustments can help you achieve your goals. Small adjustments add up and build on one another. Try to make minor adjustments that will get you out of your routine and comfort zone but won't be overly taxing mentally. We are all such accustomed beings. Modify your everyday and/or workplace schedule. Try something novel, such as a new dish, travelling to a nearby city, or activity. Start a creative endeavour of any kind that allows you to think creatively in new ways. Bring freshness into your existence. Be receptive to new things.
