Brown Castle

Manarola's stronghold was built in the twelfth century to protect the village from Saracen pirate invasions. It later came to represent the old country's true nucleus. Some pieces are still well preserved and visible now, while others have been absorbed by the seaside residences. However, there are no visible remnants of the ancient castle, which was constructed in tandem with the bastion.

Church of San Giorgio

San Giorgio's church is a modest temple situated on a cliff overlooking a picturesque promontory. Since its construction in 1154, this church has been demolished on multiple occasions. Inside the church now, you can see some valuable paintings, despite the fact that many of the works that were once held there have been destroyed. The relics of San Giorgio are stored in a shrine dug beneath the main altar of the church inside this cathedral.

The Piazzetta of Portofino

On the right, the fourteenth-century oratory of Nostra Signora Assunta serves as a container for art exhibitions, with a stunning slate gateway (1555). The street comes to an end in Piazza Martiri dell'Olivetta, also known as the small square, which houses shops, boutiques, restaurants, and ice cream parlours as well as the harbour.
