EXPERIENCE CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEARS IN VENICE
Don't miss our suggestions for making your trip memorable if you're looking for things to do in Venice for Christmas and New Year's Eve, guided tours and activities, what to do during your Venice Christmas vacation, or the chance to enjoy an amazing Venice Christmas celebration.
Venice Christmas Market
Strolling through the Christmas markets that have been set up throughout the city in December is one of the greatest things to do in Venice. You can purchase many traditional items, both gastronomic and decorative, in addition to taking in the splendour of the décor. Some of them offer kid-friendly attractions so the kids can enjoy themselves even more.
The Christmas joy and goodwill of people can be found in plenty at the Venetian marketplaces, where a unique blend of locals, Italians, and foreign visitors can be found. Campo Santo Stefano is the most well-known, but Campo San Bortolo, Campo dei Santi Apostoli, and the markets in Mestre are not far behind in terms of popularity.
Ice Skating in Campo San Polo
Ice skating is a pleasant and energising activity that you can attempt after seeing Venice's most well-known attractions. A sizable skating rink will be erected in Campo San Polo, the second-largest square in the city, beginning in the first days of December for people of all ages to enjoy.
Having fun on the rink might be a terrific way to start enjoying the Venetian night, even though it closes very early (on the 25th at 20:00 and the rest around 19:00).
Those who are game can also take in the grandeur of the structures that make up the historic square in addition to the skating itself. Additionally, there are food and beverage stalls put up nearby. Therefore, you can sample some tasty treats and a fine mulled wine after leaving the skating rink.
FIREWORK DISPLAY AT “RIVA DEGLI SCHIAVONI” AND “ARSENALE”
Up until a few years ago, New Year's Eve in Venice featured a variety of shows, entertainment, and, of course, fireworks. The majority of this occurred at St. Mark's Square, or Piazza San Marco. The famous "Love" event, in which people present kiss at the start of the new year, was held in the square for a few years after that.
However, the "Love" event has now been replaced by a fireworks display. The two locations with the best views of the fireworks are La Riva degli Schiavoni, which is ten minutes' walk east of Piazza San Marco along the canal, and L'Arsenale, which is close by. The Piazza San Marco is not a good place to see the fireworks.
Consider taking a lagoon boat if you'd prefer to watch the fireworks from the water rather than in the heart of a crowd. Even if it could be a little bit chillier, this is a fantastic way to make the evening even more unforgettable! A full meal with an appetizer, first and second courses, dessert, beverages, and a midnight toast are included in a number of the mini-cruises that are offered.
THE VENETIAN MUSICIANS: NEW YEAR’S CONCERT
I Musici Veneziani host a spectacular celebration to ring in the new year. An extended 14-piece orchestra performing a classical concert with special guests soprano Vittoria Boldrin, tenor Massimo Cagnin, and baritone Nico Mamone.
A New Year concert in Venice is a fantastic way to ring in the new year, and it's much better when it's a magnificent event including professional musicians dressed in Baroque period attire and played in a historically significant structure that captures all the beauty of Venice at her height. Join the musicians of I Musici Veneziani for a New Year concert in Venice this year, an experience you won't soon forget.
You can take in the priceless art and breathtaking scenery as you take a seat in the opulent concert hall setting at the Scuola Grande di San Teodoro. With their historical attire, the orchestra enters the stage and transports you to Baroque Venice. You start to take in the sights and sounds as the music starts playing, ushering in the new year unlike any other.
