FUNNY FACES

If you want to have a toned body then you exercise it so it makes sense that if you want to define and tone the contours of your face, you’re going to need to work those muscles, too, right?

There are over 43 muscles in the face that can be targeted to lift the skin, naturally get rid of wrinkles and brighten the complexion. Face yoga is a completely natural alternative to anti-ageing remedies. By practising a series of facial exercises you can learn to tone the muscles beneath the facial skin and increase facial circulation and blood flow which results in a more youthful and radiant complexion.

By doing facial exercises, you strengthening your muscles, moving them back into place so the skin naturally follows and starts to smooth. It’s resistance training for the muscles in the face. Moving your limbs against oppositional weight either from your own body (yoga is an excellent example of resistance training), dumbbells, or elastic bands is one of the most strengthening and toning forms of exercise, the same principles are being applied to the muscles of the face.

The exercises do help the face look younger however you do need to commit at least 30 minutes a day for 8 weeks to start and then every other day for 12 days to see any difference so if you can keep it up it will be worth it as the muscle growth is enough to add more definition to the cheeks and counteract the drooping and sliding of the skin, making it look firmer.

Though everyone’s face is different, meaning that results will vary too, depending on things like what you eat and drink, the environment you’re exposed to, such as so much sun and your genetics. The first result many people start to see is a brighter complexion, likely because you’re getting more blood circulating to your face, the glowing appearance can start to show in just a few weeks. As you start to strengthen the other major muscles of the face, such as the obicularis oculi (the big muscle around the eye) and the zygomaticus major (the muscle you use to smile and the one that can cause dimples in some people), the skin starts to firm up so you may notice fewer fine lines, wrinkles and crow’s feet and less puffiness under the eyes.

Is It Worth Trying?

Anti-ageing procedures, like fillers and lasers, are the standard in dermatology when it comes to improving appearance of the face and reducing visible signs of ageing because they have been proven to be safe and effective but facial yoga is non-toxic, non-invasive and safe for anyone, plus it’s inexpensive and you can do it on your own time, even while you’re watching TV, so what you you have to lose!
